FAMILY LAW & MATRIMONIAL VALUATIONS

Matrimonial and divorce property appraisals

An independent opinion of residential property value can help parties and their advisers address a separation, equalization or other matrimonial matter. We establish the purpose and relevant valuation date at the outset.

Discuss an appraisal

Date-of-separation and retrospective values

The required effective date may be the current date or a specified historical date, such as the date of separation. We discuss the date, intended users and available property information before accepting a retrospective assignment.

For lawyers, mediators and individuals

We work with legal professionals and private clients on residential valuation issues involving separation, cohabitation and marriage contracts, mediation and litigation. Reports are prepared independently for the identified client and intended users. Where an opinion may be used in a proceeding, report scope and instructions should be agreed in advance. Common questions

Do both parties need to agree on an appraiser?

The engagement arrangement depends on your circumstances and legal advice. Tell us who is instructing the appraiser and who is expected to rely on the report so we can discuss the assignment.

Can you appraise a home as of a past date?

Yes, subject to the availability of suitable historical property and market information. Provide the requested effective date and any relevant records when you inquire.
